Initial Genome-Wide Association Study of Feed Intake Related Traits in Beef Cattle

چکیده

Importance of Feed Efficiency The ability to improve the utilization of nutrients has tremendous potential to improve profitability. It has been estimated that a 10% improvement in performance (gain) would increase profit by 18%, while a 10% improvement in efficiency could improve profit by upwards of 43%. It has also been estimated that a 10% improvement in feed efficiency (assumed to be a 2 lb/day reduction in RFI) across the entire feedlot sector would equate to $1.2 Billion in reduced feed costs.

Systems genetics and genome-wide association approaches for analysis of feed intake, feed efficiency, and performance in beef cattle.

Feed intake, feed efficiency, and weight gain are important economic traits of beef cattle in feedlots. In the present study, we investigated the physiological processes underlying such traits from the point of view of systems genetics. Firstly, using data from 1334 Nellore (Bos indicus) cattle and 943,577 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), a genome-wide association analysis was performed ...

Genome-wide Association Study to Identify Genes and Biological Pathways Associated with Type Traits in Cattle using Pathway Analysis

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Type traits describing the skeletal characteristics of an animal are moderately to strongly genetically correlate with other economically important traits in cattle including fertility, longevity and carcass traits. The present study aimed to conduct a genome wide association studies (GWAS) based on gene-set enrichment analysis for identifying the ...

Genome wide association study for feed efficiency traits in beef cattle using CNV

The purpose of this study was: (i) to validate and detect copy number variations (CNV) in the cattle genome, and (ii) to find associations between CNV and feed efficiency traits. Average daily gain and dry matter intake were obtained from 3,884 beef cattle. Animals were genotyped with the panels of 50,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) or 770,000 SNP. The log R ratio (LRR) was used as an...

Genome-wide association study for feed efficiency traits using SNP and haplotype models.

Feed costs comprise the majority of variable expenses in beef cattle systems making feed efficiency an important economic consideration within the beef industry. Due to the expense of recording individual feed intake phenotypes, a genomic-enabled approach could be advantageous towards improving this economically relevant trait complex. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed using ...

Genome Wide Association Studies for Net Feed Intake, Body Weight and Hip Height in Beef Cattle

We report on a genome-wide association study (GWAS) from the CRC for Beef Genetic Technologies using the 50k Illumina SNP chip. Here, we present the results for net feed intake (NFI), body weight and hip height. The aims of this analysis are to discover SNPs associated with all traits but especially NFI and to test the consistency of SNP effects across datasets and breed types using the weight ...
